Intel creates unit for smartphones, tablets

Chipmaker Intel is combining four divisions under a new mobile and communications unit in a bid to catch up in smartphones and tablets, where it has so far failed to gain its name.The new division combines Intel's netbook and tablets division, its ultra mobility division, the mobile communications division and the mobile wireless division.The ultimate goal is to speed up and improve the development process.

Intel's processors power 80 per cent of the world's PCs but so far has failed in the fast-growing smartphone and tablet market.The new division will be headed by Mike Bell, who moved to Intel last year after playing a hand in the development of the iPhone at Apple, and by former Infineon executive Hermann Eul.Eul had headed Intel's mobile communications division, which included the cellphone technology business it bought from Infineon in January.Intel's mobile wireless group is responsible for short-range networking like WiFi and the ultra mobility group has developed smartphone processors.

Intel has been adapting its PC chip architecture to be more suitable for mobile gadgets but it faces tough competition from rivals like Qualcomm and Texas Instruments.

They specialize in energy efficient chips -- a big factor for devices that rally on batteries -- using technology licensed from Britain's ARM Holdings.Manufacturers are expected to unveil smartphones using a new Intel mobile chip, codenamed Medfield, early next year.

Amazon's Kindle Phone May be In Next Year..

Amazon might be planning its own kindle-branded phone, according to reports.Following the strong reception of its kindle Fire tablets,which significantly undercuts the ipad in price,Amazon could be exploring its chances of launching a device to compete with the iphone.The Kindle Fire already runs a heavily customized fork of Android,which could be adapted for the suggested phones, giving the company a price advantage and  differentiating factor.

Amazon also runs its own app store already.Such a device would obviously tap into the Amazon store for music, video,and books.The phone would launch in the second half of 2012,if rumers are true.

Windows Phone 7.5 - Mango

When it is about style, Windows Phone 7.5 beats everyone else. Microsoft is betting big on its latest mango update for Windows Phone. It is truly an innovative thought-process of what a phone UI  should look like and how efficiently you can use this.


Look and feel:
A completely new Concept called ‘tile’ adds a refreshing look to its interface. you will find the UI more live with tiles showing updates as they are available. Tiles also give you access to your favorite features. It can be an application, a file, an inbox or a ‘hub’. There is a support for third party apps that you can use in live tiles.

It uses an integrated ‘people hub’ that adds more liveliness to its highly acclaimed interface. It lists all your content from various services(i.e facebook). you can easily track history, see updates and do interactions with them.

Social Connection:
When it comes to social integration, the windows phone adds more slices... i.e now you can integrate your Twitter and Linkedin contacts in addition to Facebook one.You can categorize your contacts into groups and can pin these groups on your home screen.Your Facebook events are integrated with the calender.You can share photos through Facebook and windows live messenger app can be used to access Twitter. 

Messaging:
well it is really putting people first. The Messaging app contains sms, facebook chat and live messenger. The people hub contains Twitter and LinkedIn integration. Contact cards now include all the contacts conversation history (SMS, emails, MMS, Messenger, etc.). All messaging communication organized in a single thread no matter it can be Messenger, SMS or MMS.It has also a support for Threaded email conversations and Outlook tasks.


Multimedia Front:
This new release still uses the zune desktop app for syncing music and videos also for file transfer no bluetooth facility is available. You can create your own customized ringtone but no "save as ringtone" option is there for you. The phone supports voice commands so you can call or text a contact. At the Camera side, the nice feature is that it retains your custom settings when you exit from the application with the save settings option.
  
Market Place:
Windows Phone apps market place recently touches the 40,000 apps mark, which is a good sign for app users and developers. XBOX integration makes app access very easy and gives a chance to access a huge & high quality game library. You can even try them before purchasing it.


Mango tastes good but lacks pulp:
Mango has got varous significant features and cool gesture, still it needs some more hands for the finest.The things that you can find not so smart one :

~ Dependency on zune for syncing. 

~ Absence of handy file transfer feature (i.e bluetooth).

~ No file manager.

~ No Mass storage mode is availabe.


So you can expect a solution for these lacks  and a better windows phone in its next update like Apollo.  :-)

Cool..! we're not talking about any third party phone with Facebook integration —we're talking about a brand new phone from Facebook itself that will be in the market in next 12 to 18 months, according to AllThingsD.

facebook,who has been kicking around the idea of entering into the smart mobile phone business for years, is working with Taiwanese cellphone maker HTC to create a Facebook branded smartphone.The new phone, which is code-named “Buffy”,will be designed to transition Facebook from a popular mobile app to a fully integrated phone experience.

Facebook has selected HTC over Samsung to make a heavily modded Android phone that "has the social network integrated at the core of its being." with code named "Buffy."

As per the Facebook’s mobile strategy- “Our mobile strategy is simple: We think every mobile device is better if it is deeply social. We’re working across the entire mobile industry; with operators, hardware manufacturers, OS providers, and application developers to bring powerful social experiences to more people around the world.” told to AllThingsD.

The project," which is being run by Facebook CTO Bret Taylor, the company plans to build the phone around a version of Google's Android mobile operating system that Facebook "has tweaked heavily to deeply integrate its services, as well as to support HTML5 as a platform for applications."

The Buffy phone would weave the various features and services of facebook available on different smart phone platforms throughout the functionality of the device,allowing users to directly upload photos from the picture-taking app, or to integrate Facebook contacts with the phone's address book.

 

Facebook, with its over 800 million users worldwide and 350 million active mobile users,is planning to enter in the world of smart phone and at the same time utilize the new "Buffy" handset to continue and spreading its the social network’s dominance.The proposed Android phone will come with a pre-installed Facebook client, full Facebook integration, and will probably offer a dedicated button to quickly access Facebook at any time.

The long-term success of the Facebook phone will depend on whether the phone can offer a significantly more social experience than other Android phones with the Facebook app, along with other smart features and apps provided by highly competitive smart phone service provider.

Buffy also makes sense in the context of Google CEO Eric Schmidt's famous declaration that Google, Facebook, Apple, and Amazon represent a "Gang of Four" that dominates consumer technology. Each of those companies has a core area of strength that differentiates it from the other three, but each has also been increasingly expanding into the prime turf of its rivals.

So you have Amazon moving into Apple's iPad territory with the Kindle Fire, Google taking on Facebook with Google+ and trying to add some content muscle with a new music service to counter Amazon and Apple's iTunes, and perhaps Facebook finally joining the other three as a hardware player.

It sounds like a smart move for Facebook—but only time will tell where this all setup lands.While Apple and Google are currently the dominant players in the mobile market, Facebook may be able to leverage its loyal user base to win over mobile customers.

So now wait for Facebook's move.

Notifications : If you swipe down the status bar from top down it slides down the new notification area where you will find all your notifications including ‘Text Messages’,‘Weather’, ‘App Notification’, 'Stocks’ etc. In other word all your essential notifications are organized such a way that does not interrupt your work and not at all annoying anymore. 

 

  Home Screen : The Home screen displays the apps stored on the device. When it holds more than 20 apps, a new home screen is created which you can see by looking at the dots near the bottom of the screen. Pressing the Home button in the bezel exits an app and takes you to the last home screen you were viewing. If you are on a ‘home’ screen then it takes you to ‘first screen’ and if you are there then it will display the Spotlight search page.

Gestures : The device supports multi touch gesturing i.e you Tap, Drag, Flick, Swipe, Pinch, Rotate, Shake, Touch and hold on the screen to interact with the software.

Messaging : The messaging, called iMessage, is quite similar to blackberry messenger, lets you to talk to any iOS devices for free. It also has group i-messaging.

Apps : iOS 5 is enriched with some very good out of the box apps and there are a huge number of third party apps in Apple’s app store including the largest collection of games. You will find literally everything -- from jokes to music, from social networking to business apps.

Newsstand : You can read all your news and magazines from Newsstand. You can customize it with your subscriptions and it will automatically start downloading all your subscriptions. One remarkable thing is that you can not hide the Newsstand whether you like it or not. :-(

  

Game Center : I bet you will definitely be addicted to the gaming experience provided by iOS devices. You can search for friends, add or invite friends to Game center by making or accepting a request, track your scores and show it off to your friends. Even if you go for reset in i phone, you will be able to continue from the last point where you had left. hmm... sounds good ya!!! 

Other Features : Other features such as iBooks let you read e-books having PUB or PDF formats. So you make your library easily.
